Steve
Engh is not able to be present with us at Sunday’s Worship & Music / Music
Staff meeting. But he stopped by
Wednesday (9/21) to give a progress report and show work completed and in
process.

In the
foreground are the four completed chalices – two shallow with smooth silver
inside and two deep with hammered silver inside.

Far
right and left are the two ciborium. In
the middle is what happens when a tool snags the wood and sends the work piece
flying across the shop. The broken
bottom is why he makes an extra circle of wood on the bottom of each piece – to
protect from this happening.

Close-up
of the lid and cross for one of the ciborium.
He plans to add a little extra silver at the top, where the wood and
cross meet.

Two
patens. On the left: 71/8”. On the right: 5¾“. They both have a raised ‘dimple’
in the middle to make it easier to pick up the host. The one on the right is the same size as the
small one we usually use under the veil at the Traditional Services. He can make an even larger one for use at
Contemporary Service. This is an item
for thought and discussion.
He is
targeting 10/23/11 to be done, so we might be able to include dedication and
first use to coincide with our 45th Anniversary. We’ll see.
